Six custom golf dice including golf ball die and FORE die

HOW TO PLAY

GOLF DICE GAME

Jump To

Golf Dice Game is played with six custom dice over nine holes, with the goal of rolling the lowest score possible.

We recommend playing with 2-8 players. If you are playing with more than 8, we recommend teaming up. No matter the group size, remember pace of play is key.

In the game of GOLF the lowest score after 9 holes wins. The numbers on the dice denote how many “strokes” each is worth. The golf ball, which takes the place of three, counts for zero strokes and the “FORE” counts for four.

Before the game begins, designate one person to be the scorekeeper. After everyone has rolled, the scorekeeper will announce the winner of the hole.

Scores are only read after holes 5, 8 & at the end of the game to announce the winner.

PLAY BY PLAY

  1. Pick up and roll all six dice.

  2. Look at the dice and take the lowest valued die out of play (these dice will eventually add up to be your score for the hole).

Must take at least one dice per turn, but may take more.

Golf balls count for 0, so the more golf balls, the better.

Make sure to check for any combos after each roll!

  3. Roll the remaining dice that are not out of play.

  4. Check for combos and again take out the lowest value die or dice.

5. Continue to roll remaining dice until all the dice are pulled out of play.

6. Add up all the numbers on the dice that you pulled out of play, then deduct points for combination rolls (if any).

This is your score (# of strokes) for that hole.

Make sure the scorekeeper records your score on the scorecard.

7. Pass the dice to the next player & repeat steps 1-6.

8. After each player has played, the scorekeeper will announce who won that hole.

The winner will start the next hole and may send the dice either way after completing their turn.

Although the scorekeeper announces the winner, each players’ scores are only read after holes 5, 8, & 9.

9. After holes 5, 8 & 9, tally up and announce each player's total score.

The player with the lowest score at the end of the 9th hole wins the game & signs the scorecard.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

  • No... Each die you take still counts towards your score for that hole. You still must take at least one die each roll until all dice are out of play. The combo subtracts points from your overall score for that hole.

Same goes for ‘of a kind’ combos: say you roll four 2s, you take the 2 (adding two strokes to your score), but you also get a minus one, for a net of +1 stroke.

  • There is a playoff round between those tied, starting with 4 dice instead of 6. There are no rule changes for those invovled. The loser adds +1 stroke to their score for that hole to break the tie.

  • Rolling dice off the table results in a +1 stroke penalty for each die that rolled off the table. If you catch the die before it hits the ground, you are safe; That die can then be re-rolled and will not result in a +1 stroke penalty.

  • GOLF is a fluid game where new and inventive course rules are encouraged.

  • The golf ball has two different values depending on when it’s counted:

When still in play: The golf ball counts as 3(e.g. for combos). When pulled out of play (added to your score): The golf ball counts as 0 strokes.
